About Matt

Matt is an award-winning multi-disciplinary storyteller. He believes in the power of stories and hopes to tell ones that inspire curiosity, hope, and wonder. He is especially interested in creating rich evocative worlds, the intersection of technology, design, & storytelling, and crafting works that have the power to impact the world.

In this pursuit, Matt works as a director, designer, and writer for film, theatre, live events, and new media. This diversity of experience is Matt's secret weapon, developing within him a deep understanding of story, conceptual design, and logistical how-to. These projects range from the gamification of concept cars for Toyota to recreating history with VR; he has painted album covers, worked as a concept artist for games, a comic book artist, a storyboard artist; he has designed puppets, sets, and video projections for concerts and operas; and designed immersive parties for some of television biggest premiers. Matt has served as an artist-in-residence at the National Theatre of Croatia, with the Getty Foundation, and with the Annenberg Foundation. His work has been shown in over a dozen countries on three continents. Additionally, Matt spent ten years as the Associate Artistic Director for Rogue Artists Ensemble and remains an Ensemble Member.

Matt’s work has garnered much praise and numerous awards, including multiple BizBash Awards, two Ovation Awards (and an additional five nominations), a StageRaw Award, an LA Weekly Award, three CSPA Gold Circle Awards, and both the Kairos & Chronos Prizes in screenwriting, among others. He has designed over a dozen Silver and Bronze Telly Award-winning campaigns. In 2020, he wrote and directed The Alienist: Angel of Darkness virtual event for TNT + Little Cinema Digital; it won the BizBash Award for Best Virtual Event and was a double WEBBY Honoree for Best Narrative Experience and Best Audience Interaction. Also in 2020, he developed, co-directed, and co-wrote Blumhouse Live for Amazon Prime Video + Blumhouse + Little Cinema which was nominated for an EMMY for Outstanding Interactive Program.

Currently, Matt is the Narrative Director for Little Cinema, a creative agency and digital studio specializing in high-profile boundary-pushing events for film and entertainment. His film Burning at Both Ends, co-written and co-directed with Landon Johnson, releases internationally this year. It stars Cary Elwes, Jason Patric, & Judd Hirsch and was the winner of the Chronos Prize in screenwriting.

The writing team of Matthew Hill and Landon Johnson is an outstanding example of a brighter future in the industry. Not only did they win the inaugural Chronos Prize with BURNING AT BOTH ENDS, they first captured our attention with a runner up for the Kairos Prize for UNDER THE APPLE TREE. This was no small feat! They have spoken at prestigious MOVIEGUIDE events and been captivating. They are wise, witty and profound.
