THEATRE

&VIRTUAL REALITY

“BURNING AT BOTH ENDS is a meticulously crafted, extremely entertaining and captivating, jeopardy filled story...The direction is powerful.”
Matt is drawn to directing stories that reflect the complex and diverse nature of the world. He believes that, as Brecht said, “Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it.” As such, the projects he directs seek to create a bridge between the world that is and the world as it could be.
When it comes to film, Matt most often co-directs with his longtime collaborator, Landon Johnson. The two form a powerful duo as Landon brings his photographer’s eye and Matt brings his experience as a visual designer as well as his strong narrative/theatrical sensibilities.
As a theatre artist, Matt takes a hyper-theatrical approach by way of a motley toolbox of multi-media, emerging technologies, and ancient techniques. Puppets, interactive projections, immersive storytelling, and VR are frequently employed in his stage work.
